The most awaited match between the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will be held at the Wankhede stadium on the 6th of May, 2012. Mumbai Indians drew first blood by beating the defending champions in their home ground during the season opener match on April 4.
The Super Kings would be thirsting for revenge not only for the comprehensive loss suffered in the first leg match which kicked off IPL 5 just over a month ago on their home ground but also to end MI’s three-match winning streak against them beginning with the IPL encounter on April 22, 2024 that the hosts won by eight runs.
For the Mumbai Indians to become a strong force, they need Sachin Tendulkar to start piling on big runs. Five starts in six innings and a highest of 34 only confirm that Sachin hasn’t quite converted the starts to big match-winning scores that are expected from him. The Little Master has looked in good form, but needs to anchor the innings at one end – just like he did in IPL 2011.
In the Chennai Super Kings’ line-up, keep an eye on their two in-form players – Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis. While the former has scored runs almost every time he has walked out to bat, the latter seems to be slowly discovering the form that helped him score over 400 runs in each of the past four seasons.
The Super Kings, the title holders for the last two years, and last year’s Champions League winners Mumbai, have endured mixed fortunes leading up to the return leg and significantly have dusted off their losing run ahead of the match.
Highlight of both the teams in this season is that Mumbai Indians have the poorest scoring rate of all the teams in IPL 2012 – 7.06. And Chennai Super Kings are the only team to have not bowled a single maiden over in IPL 2012.
