After another week of action Rajasthan Royals retain top spot of the points table, thanks to more wins over Deccan and Delhi. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings were involved in two closely contested matches, edging out Delhi to victory on the final ball on Thursday, whilst stopping Punjab's comeback with a hat trick thanks to Balaji. That also put an end to Punjab's five match winning streak but sees them remain at third on the ladder.

Into the second half of the series, it seems likely that Kolkata or Delhi will be fighting it out for a semi finals berth amongst the other top three teams.

Chennai's flawless reign ended on Friday with Delhi chasing down their target thanks to an impressive opening stand from Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag.

Both of Saturday's games proved to be close affairs, with Deccan falling 3 runs short against Bangalore in a nailbiting finish, and Punjab holding out by 9 runs against Kolkata.

The real surprises of the weekend came on Sunday. Delhi's game against Mumbai left them failing to chalk up another win after their impressive victory against Chennai on Friday. Meanwhile Rajasthan bowled out Chennai for just 109, thanks to a 6 wicket haul by Sohail Tanvir. They then proceeded to chase down the runs with ease.

The points table has now been turned right around, with Rajasthan taking honours for top spot, followed by Delhi and Punjab, leaving Chennai relegated to fourth after their dream start to the series.

The weekend's action has proved that nothing is for granted in Twenty20. Head back to IPLCricketNews.Com soon for all your latest headlines from the games.

The action of the IPL has continued all this week. Chennai have proved once again that they are the team to beat, chalking up another win against Bangalore on Monday. MS Dhoni put on an impressive 65 at a strike rate of over 200. At the other end of the points table, Mumbai broke through for their first victory of the tournament with a win against Kolkata, thanks to a tidy spell of bowling by Sanith Jayasuriya.

The midweek match saw Bangalore fall short of Delhi's total by 10 runs, with Glenn McGrath taking 4 wickets. Kolkata could fare no better on Thursday with their chase of Rajasthan's 196. Meanwhile the match between Deccan and Punjab proved close with Punjab chasing down the runs with an over to spare.

The weekend will see some big games with Chennai set to take on rival contenders Delhi and Rajasthan. Head back to IPLCricketNews.Com soon for all your latest headlines from the games.

The IPL is now well and truly underway. The first of the weekday scheduled matches saw Rajasthan Royals securing victory over Kings XI Punjab in a relatively close run chase. Chasing proved no drama for the Delhi Daredevils on Tuesday as they defeated Deccan Chargers in only 13 overs. Meanwhile the bad luck for Mumbai Indians continued as they they 7 runs short of victory against Chennai Super Kings. On Thursday Rajasthan and Deccan were back on the field for a match that went down to the wire and just saw Rajasthan extend their lead at the top of the table.

Mumbai once again failed to meet expectations as they fell well short of Punjab's total on Friday night. Kolkata's dream start to the series ended at the hands of Chennai, whilst Rajasthan chased down Bangalore's total without problem. Punjab notched up a second win on Sunday in a closely fought match against Delhi, and Deccan opened their points account with a blitzing chase against Mumbai, with Adam Gilchrist making the fastest century of the tournament in 42 balls.

Chennai remain undefeated after three games and top the points table ahead of Rajasthan, who have played four matches but lost one. At the bottom of the table, Mumbai remain scoreless after four matches. The coming week should see a hierarchy to the points table surface with games set for each day.

The start of the IPL series delivered an action packed weekend to all involved. Friday's opener saw Bangalore Royal Challengers take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Bangalore, with Brendon McCullum employing maximum firepower to set a new 20twenty record of 158 runs not out, at a strike rate of 216. The target of 222 set by Kolkata proved too much for Bangalore to contend with, falling apart for a paltry 82 in 15.1 overs.

A closer match on Saturday saw Kings XI Punjab falling just short of the 240 target set by Chennai Super Kings, thanks to a rapidfire 50 ball century from Mike Hussey. In the second match of the day, Delhi Daredevils successfully restricted Rajasthan Royals to just 129 runs thanks to tight bowling from Farveez Maharoof, Rajata Bhatia, and Glenn McGrath.

Sunday's matches got even closer. Kolkata stormed to victory again with a 2 run win over Deccan Chargers, and Bangalore notched up their first win by reaching the target of 166 set by Mumbai with 2 balls to spare. Kolkata now leads the points table having secured two victories from two matches.
